African CareerBank

A free, open-access career discovery platform for secondary school girls across Sub-Saharan Africa. CareerBank profiles hundreds of careers, showing girls what they can become and exactly how to get there.

The problem

Most girls choose their school subjects, and often their future, knowing only a handful of careers: the ones their parents, teachers and neighbours do. Good career guidance is rare in many schools, and information that does exist is often built for other countries and other education systems.

As a result, talented girls drop subjects they need, miss scholarships and applications, or never consider careers in fields like engineering, technology, health, finance or the creative industries.

What CareerBank offers

  • 500+ career profiles across every industry, written for African contexts.
  • Clear pathways: the school subjects, qualifications, training and steps that lead to each career.
  • Built for girls: made to help the next generation of African women leaders picture themselves in every field.
  • Pan-African: careers relevant to every corner of the continent.
  • Completely free: no fees, no paywall and no advertising. It is open to girls, parents, teachers and schools.

How it works

  1. Explore. Browse careers by industry or interest.
  2. Learn the path. Each profile explains what the job involves and the subjects and qualifications needed.
  3. Plan. Girls use what they learn to choose subjects and courses with confidence, and can ask AWEF to connect them with a mentor.

African CareerBank is launching soon. Until then, you can support it by becoming a mentor.

For schools and teachers

Teachers and school counsellors can use CareerBank in career lessons, guidance sessions and parent meetings at no cost. If your school would like a CareerBank session for students, or wants to help us add careers, please get in touch.
